To most, Red Wine appears immediately to be comprised of little more than pride and pretentious criticism, with his blunt and haughty words and behaviour making him few friends. Red Wine holds himself aloof from many, making him a challenging individual to get to know at all, and even those he has known for many years do not escape his stubbornness and occasionally over-inflated ego. He is demanding and often abrasive, particularly towards people who have done something to displease him and most particularly to his fellow Food Soul Steak, for whom his attitude could lead many to suspect he entirely despises him.
Red Wine was summoned by a young woman who immediately appreciated his elegant appearance, holding it in stark contrast to the Food Soul which had been summoned by her fiancé. He gives the impression of vanity and conceit, preferring to stand in the shade rather than let the sun fall on him and always swirling his wine before he tastes it to give improvement to the flavour. His attitude is one which can easily cause irritation in others, and he prefers to keep his troubles to himself rather than involve other people where they have no business intruding.
Beneath the exterior, however, Red Wine is a dutiful, dedicated individual who holds his contract to his Master Attendant and later his promise to her to look after Steak following her death in the highest regard. He is highly disciplined, wielding a sabre as if it's part of his own body in order to protect those who have need of it. Towards his Attendant, and towards the Order of Knights that he and Steak create, his reliability and courage can never be brought into question no matter what he is called to do, be it protecting a village from Fallen Angels or simply repairing the roof of somebody's house. He is able to keep calm in tense and difficult situations, showing mercy where it is due and likewise fierce vengeance where necessary.
His age and experience give him an intelligence that other, younger Souls may lack. Red Wine approaches challenges with a sharp, perceptive efficiency and is far more capable than his appearance might give him credit. He has little patience for wilful ignorance and none at all for anyone who harms others for their own gain, mocking the former and coldly dispatching the latter. His loyalty to Steak and to their Order is entirely unshakeable, despite their constant arguments about what their group’s name should be.
Though he is brusque and ill-mannered towards Steak despite their brotherhood, Red Wine has his softer side. This is shown easily in his treatment of his Master Attendant, for whom he takes the part of a doting older brother, the gentle way in which he treats women, and his warmth in his recruitment of Gingerbread to the Order. Young girls would often become enamoured with his appearance and he would always speak kindly to them, answering their questions even if they may have been taken as annoying or insulting from others. In this way, Red Wine is unfailingly good-hearted, showing a tenderness that he most certainly does not give to his brother-in-arms.

In combat, Red Wine is a 'strength' Food Soul. He is skilled with a blade and uses it to launch quick, bold attacks against enemies, using speed to attack from the rear as well as being able to inflict heavy damage on those closest to him. Using his link skill in concert with Gingerbread, he can inflict extra damage to the enemy closest to him.
As a construct rather than a mortal, Red Wine does not age and is effectively immortal until the spiritual power which he exists on runs out, or until he is damaged beyond hope of recovery. He does not need to eat or drink, though he does enjoy drinking wine and dislikes the scents of strong-smelling food.
